Pilot Course

Integrated Transboundary Groundwater Management Tools and methods

A two-day course will take place after the conference, starting on Thursday 9 December at 8:30 am and finishing on Friday 10 December at 6:00pm.

Like the First Pilot Course offered in Thessaloniki in October 2008, the Second Pilot Course aims at providing the multidisciplinary information needed to reinforce the ability of water practitioners, either on the political and legal sides or on the scientific and technical sides, to sustainably deal with transboundary groundwater issues. It will be based on case histories, presented and commented by internationally known experts in the field, associating the participants in round-table discussions.

The course will review transboundary groundwater issues in a given country, when administrative and hydrological boundaries do not coincide, then discuss the case of the European Union as an association of countries moving towards a federation, followed by a classical international case without political conflict and finishing by a role-play on a fictitious situation with political conflict.

Participants to the conference are invited to attend the course, which is free of charge, but limited to 40 persons. The course is free of charge, limited to 40 persons (the selection process will take into consideration disciplinary, geographical and gender representations).
